Motivation

Five tutorials are available to introduce these various data formats and provide guidance on how and in which contexts to use them most effectively.

  • Raster formats presents GeoTIFF, jpeg2000 and Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG) raster formats.
  • Vector formats introduces and compares Shapefile, GeoPackage, GeoJSON, KML, GeoParquet and FlatGeobuf formats for reading and writing files.

  • Data cube formats presents HDF5, Netcdf and Zarr datacube formats and compares their file sizes, writing time and reading time.

  • Point clouds introduces LAS and NETCDF point cloud formats.

  • Data optimization presents possibilities to optimize data access and processing for the various formats presented in the tutorials.
